Meet Collective Obsessions

By Tiffany Fung

As their name suggests, Collective Obsessions is all about getting ‘obsessed’ with arts and crafts. It started when Rochelle and Jamie, the creative duo behind it all, stumbled on resin art back in 2017.

Realising resin was the perfect escape from their hectic work life, the duo founded Collective Obsessions, with the aim to inspire everyone to reconnect with their inner artist and discover the simple joy of creating.

Step into their bright white-brick studio in Balcatta and you’ll be greeted with vibrant resin artworks on the walls and large workstations, ready for some colourful action. While resin art is their specialty, they certainly don’t shy away from experimenting with new mediums like alcohol inks and acrylic paint pouring.

We’re on a mission to…

“Show as many people as possible how fun art can be. We live such busy lives and we all need a creative outlet to relax and unwind. Creating is great for the soul, it releases stress and anxiety and in today’s high-paced life, we deserve a little me-time.”

Our top tip for beginners is…

Resin art

“Jump in and give it a go! We think you’ll be surprised how easy it is once you let loose with the skills and guidance provided.”

Working with resin will help you…

Resin art

“Realise that you do have a creative side! So many wonderful things can be created with resin and you certainly don’t need to be artsy to play with it—in fact, it’s one of the easiest mediums to work with.

“We also love the freedom of abstract art, it opens the mind to create and gives you the chance to get lost in colour.”

You’ll leave our workshop feeling…

Resin art

“Energised, excited and ready to take on another art class or create at home.”

Three things you didn’t know about resin...

Resin

“It’s very sensitive to heat, resin dates back to Ancient Greece and plants secrete resin as a protection mechanism, however, the resin we use in art is chemically made. There’s lots to learn about the medium!”
