Percussion Workshop

Come and get funky with Junkadelic in this percussion workshop!In this workshop, you will be shown how to make all types of junk percussion instruments including drums, shakers, bells, clapping sticks and even reed horns!You will learn body percussion and what makes up a typical Second Line parade beat – and shown simple “clave” rhythms which you can use as tools to improvise within the groove. The New Orleans Second Line Brass bands are at the foundation of funk and rock music from North America. The second line of a New Orleans parade is derived from the group of colourful revellers who dance, strut and follow behind and alongside the “official” band and mourners in the ubiquitous New Orleans funeral procession.After a series of jam sessions, you will soon catch on to the rhythm and will feel yourself able to jam with the Junkadelic core group. You will also learn simple second line dance/strut moves – so you can really get into the groove while participating in the performance.With further workshop sessions, the participants are taken on a journey through the history of contemporary music, from New Orleans Mardi Gras to James Brown rhythms, Calypso, Reggae, Samba, Afro Cuban and Hip-Hop beats.Please note: The price is a flat rate of $1800 which covers up to 30 people attending.

Beginners are welcome! Some music and knowledge rhythm, including how to work in harmony with a group is ideal.
